Here is a sequence of thoughts stimulated by some reflections on "Who are we in relation to colour and light?" These ideas also include some thoughts raised by the scientific question of what is the nature of light - particles or waves.

It begins with a question. "Is there an analogy between the paradox of the nature of light (particles or waves) and our own existence as humans?" Individually we are like particles, each of us following our own trajectory through life. Go to a football match though and watch people from a distance acting collectively and they will look more like a wave - especially the famous Mexican wave if you have ever seen the fans doing it. So from a distance we, as a collective of individual particles, can appear as waves. In such instances there will be some underlying force for movement - some organising principle, the wave will be the manifestation of an idea or an energy running through that group of people. The idea or energy itself would be arising at another level, and I would speculate that this would be the level that the I Ching seeks to mirror and reveal.

It is also worth noticing that in this context it is not possible to predict which people (particles) will respond to an impulse and be a part of the manifestation of that impulse as a wave. This difficulty in predicting the actions of individuals echoes an aspect of quantum physics - as far as my understanding goes - in that quantum physics works in probabilities. The quantum reality is that the constituents of particles at the sub-atomic level are flashing in and out of existence all the time, it is in probabilities that the appearance of any one particle is predicted. The difference between the two situations is that in society the particles - individuals - exist before the wave. In quantum physics the wave exists before the particle. For example the atom or on a larger scale the world exists and will continue to exist even though at a subatomic level the constituent particles of that atom or the world will flash in and out of existence.

How about though if our individual lives are actually called into existence to participate in the waves that will flow through the society of our time. If we take a greater perspective on our life, say in terms of the existence of the earth, then our individual life is less than the blink of an eye. From this perspective our life history is entirely insignificant. So let us abandon our egocentric view of the world for a moment and speculate that maybe we are only a means to an end, a means called forth by the need of the thought behind the wave in which we will participate. And beyond that perhaps we are far greater than the ego of this life. Perhaps we are a part of and, as the entire image of the hologram is present within each fragment, the wholeness of the greater consciousness that thought the thought behind the wave.

Some of these waves may appear to be relatively brief in terms of time, for example the French Revolution, or the life of Christ. However as part of a larger picture it can be seen that through their effect they actually continue over generations. Christianity was not just the lifetime of Christ but has continued through the last 2000 years too, not to mention the time beforehand when the Essenes were preparing to welcome such a one into the world. The French Revolution could be seen as part of the wave that will flow through the whole of the forthcoming Aquarian Age - with its keynotes of liberty, equality, fraternity. In this context any one life need not be so significant as fragments of individual consciousness - souls - are called forth by the impulse again and again as successive incarnations to play their part in the wave as it rolls through history.

Each of these impulses will concern itself with a theme and each wave may therefore be associated with a core colour, maybe pink/red for Christianity, turquoise for individuality and the Aquarian age. It could be then that each individual fragment of consciousness associated with that wave will also have a resonance with that colour for the period of its involvement with that wave.

It may even be that the individual fragments - souls - do not exist without the wave preceding them and creating them out of itself. The impulse behind the wave manifesting as a hundred thousand individual souls in order to play itself out on the world stage. Souls born out of impulses into colour resonant waves in the ocean of consciousness that is pure light.

It is exciting then to consider that each impulse would have a relationship with the rays that feature so much in the New Age information, and which are also intimately involved with the work of Aura-Soma. Each ray has a different colour, each ray is associated with a Master. Each impulse will be developing a particular theme and may therefore be associated with primarily one colour and one ray. It will be born under the auspices of one master who cares for the workings of that ray. As the impulse gives birth to the wave so too does it give birth to the souls that will work this impulse out. The souls will be born into the care of the master who is nurturing that impulse and overseeing the flowing of that wave, and each soul will have the colour signature of that ray deep within them.

Aura-Soma's view is that each soul works with a ray for many lifetimes. The colour of the ray would equate to the true aura colour of that soul. Aura-Soma also says that on rare occasions souls can finish with one ray and move to another. Perhaps this change is possible when an individual fragment of the impulse that gave birth to the wave finally works its bit of the picture out. At that point some souls may have an individual choice to move on to another ray and work with another impulse, bringing the consciousness that they evolved previously into the new wave.

The wave as a whole will continue to flow through history until all the souls born out of that impulse have worked their bit of it out, at which point the wave will be no more. The other option when each soul works its bit of the wave out is that it may return to the pure light field. The ocean of universal consciousness. The ocean in which the impulses arise and the masters and waves have their being. To return to this universal light field will be to completely dissolve, a dissolution beyond any clearing effect of the Clear/Clear in Aura-Soma of Serapis Bey. It will be Karmic Absolution to the point that there is no being remaining to be absolved. A complete dissolution; not just the content of mind / personality but also the structure / soul in which that content was held. When a new impulse arises out of the light field it will be an entirely new beginning, there will be no identity carried over from old waves.

The question where all this began was, "Are we light or are we colour?". My answer would be that each soul in existence is, as an individual, a light particle, rather like a photon in quantum physics. But that none of these souls / photons is pure light, they are all inevitably coloured by the impulse and wave which has called them forth. As some souls become more conscious they may awaken to the bigger picture and learn how to move from one ray to another, a rainbow liberation within this existence. Others will simply play their part and be subsumed into the universal light field on completion of their part. In the universal light field which is ultimately all that there is there is no separate consciousness. As long as any soul is in existence it will not be the pure light but a fragment of it. The essence of consciousness is light but the soul cannot appear in manifestation except as colour. Adept souls may master all the colours and then appear as white though this would not be the pure light which would ever remain unmanifest.

What is the significance of Aura-Soma as a soul therapy? Perhaps it is that it addresses all the rays. At the ending of one age and the birth of another Aura-Soma has appeared as an expression of the rays coming together in conscious cooperation. Aura-Soma by bringing together many colours in balance shows a way for these many waves and impulses to harmonise and merge. The souls within them may be nourished and supported in awakening to their role and fulfilment. Aura-Soma addresses the soul through the language of colour in which it has its being.

Within Aura-Soma are contained two further energies that point to something even beyond colour, something that lies behind the waves of the manifest universe. These energies are Clear and Deep Magenta. While they seem equal to the other colours when they appear as a fraction in Equilibrium, nevertheless there is an extra dimension to them which represents something more transcendent. This is evident when we try and find a place for them in the Colour Rose.

From the Kaballistic perspective the universal light field to which all souls return would relate to the light fields above Kether in the Tree of Life. Ain (Light), Ain Soph (Limitless Light), Ain Soph Aur (Absolute Limitless Light). Kether corresponds to the crown of our head and so it is at first glance paradoxical that it should be magenta which is placed here on the chakra man card etc. Yet we should also note that it is the visible magenta above Kether rather than the Deep Magenta. The visible magenta is a representation of the light, Clear, shone through Deep Magenta.

The Deep Magenta serves as a threshold to the Light. From our earthly perspective it is that out of which all things are born. For example all the colours in Aura-Soma have arisen out of it since it is Deep Magenta and not Clear which is in the base fraction of B0 and B1. Deep Magenta is the darkness of the earth in which seeds germinate and also the darkness of the womb in which the embryo develops. The Deep Magenta is that which we are born through but not of.

The Deep Magenta provides a veil of darkness that prevents us from seeing where we have come from, just as when we fall into the deepest sleep we do not know where we go. How would it be if we could travel back to the root of our life, with open eyes approach the birth experience, enter the darkness of the womb experience and, even before our eyes were formed, see our conception. Was there a light? Where did it come from? What was its nature? Would there be finally revealed the Absolute Limitless Light? Perhaps the Deep Magenta is as the Veil of the Temple referred to in the Bible which hides the light, the Ark of the Covenant, until we are ready.

Returning to the Colour Rose I would create it like this. The Clear/Clear would be as a diamond situated over the centre of the Colour Rose. It can do no more than represent the unified light field since its appearance in manifestation contradicts the essential being of this field. Directly underneath the Clear/Clear and still some way above the Colour Rose would be the Deep Magenta. This is the only colour that does not exist as a colour combination in itself. This is perfectly fitting since it represents at a deep level the potential that may never be consciously manifested, yet it does mean that this aspect with in the construction of the Colour Rose will have to remain notional or approximate. Nevertheless the Deep Magenta energy would be the next step, it would represent the veil through which the Light represented by the Clear must pass. The Colour Rose itself then is set in a circle underneath these two energies and it is as if the light of the Clear spirals down and through the Deep Magenta whereupon it funnels out and creates the rays that appear on the circumference of the Colour Rose. Visible Magenta sitting between Violet and Red may be some kind of conduit through which this energy flows in manifesting as the visible spectrum.


How to summarise? We have looked at the particle and wave nature of light. We have noted how individual souls participate in the waves of ideas and processes that sweep through society and shape the consciousness on the planet. We have speculated that the individual souls - analogous to the particle nature of light - are actually called forth and created out of the impulse - analogous to the wave aspect of light - which is the organising principle behind the process of history. We have also considered that each impulse may be connected with a certain colour and therefore a certain ray and a certain master and therefore that the individual souls whose role it is to play out the sweep of this wave will be linked to this master and this will be reflected in their true aura. Finally we have explored the relationship between colour and light, referring to both the process of souls and impulses and also to the significance of Clear and Deep Magenta within Aura-Soma.

There are still certain questions. What place does this leave for the likely eventuality that there will be souls of more than one true aura colour deeply involved in a certain movement in a lifetime? Also how is it that impulses arise within the ocean of undifferentiated pure consciousness?

But these we will have to leave for another time.
